Thanks for the great feedback, Annie!

I've heard many people say that Sedona, AZ is a great place to visit or to live, and I have every intention of getting out there to check it out for myself.

I'm sure it is a wonderful atmosphere for healing and introspection. Thanks for your comment, Annie!

Found this article on Digg and I of course dugg it. I find it powerful in many ways. I host retreats in Sedona, Arizona and assist people to face their fears and beliefs and focus their thoughts, and actions on what they want. This quiet but powerful and profound article is amazing and simple and a powerful action plan for everyone's life.

Thanks, Herb!

I love the vision of someone's coat-tails, because it brings up the visual of what that reality would be like - arriving BEHIND someone else.

It doesn't matter what you choose to excel at in life, who would ever want to show up to success in someone else's shadow??

I have always believed that riding on other people's coat-tails will never take you to the level of success you desire.

If you truly want to become successful at whatever it is you're passionate about, then you have to dedicate yourself to that passion.

Great Post!

Evelyn,

Glad that you enjoyed the article, and thanks for sharing your thoughts!

What's funny (as in ironic) about security, is that the things that most people hang onto in order to have that "security" are <strong>not very secure at all</strong>!

How many jobs offer 40 or 50 years of solid work and a pension these days?

How many relationships based on making sacrifices don't end in bitterness, separation, or divorce?

How many people sacrifice their health in order to "take care of" other aspects of their lives, only to end up with debilitating or life-threatening illness as a result?

No, I say that security comes from blazing your own path, and doing what is best for YOU. What the rest of the world is doing is all but irrelevant! :)

Hello Aaron,

I can't agree more. Many of us choose to hang on so tightly to our old ways of thinking because they offer us security; not realising that if we learn to let go just a little, we can be free to explore our creativity and the world!

Enjoyed your article. Thanks!

Erin,

That's awesome! "U" is one of my favorite because although the word "unattainable" would seem to have negative implications, as you indicated, it is only our beliefs that create our reality.

As we go after those allegedly unattainable goals, we suddenly realize that they are not so unattainable after all, and our confidence soars.

Glad to have you with us here in the blogosphere, Erin, and I'm sure you'll attain the unattainable! :)

If the entire legacy of this blog boiled down to the fact that I helped a lot of people to get a needed kick in the be-hind, I would be perfectly happy!! :)

Looking forward to seeing what your changes entail, Maria!

Patricia,

That's the real trick, isn't it?

We want to be responsible in order to provide for our lives, or for our loved ones, yet that is exactly where the fear of change kicks in.

It is easier and safer to stay put in a place in life where things are "status quo". However, without taking on the challenge of leading a GREAT life, not only will we never lead that life, but we'll also never lead with that example!

Bruce,

That is such a telling phrase:

<em>"...a life of quiet desperation..."</em>

That is exactly how a lot of people lead their lives, and they don't even realize it. Thanks for your comment, and for sharing that.

Here's to everyone waking up, being loud, and making things happen!

Dear Aaron,

As a non-techie person whose recently launched herself into the blogosphere because ... well ... I just can't ignore it anymore, I can honestly say that this is one of the best posts out of the hundreds that I've read in the past few weeks. Thank you.

I'm currently in the midst of "U" ... but with each passing day my belief that it is attainable grows stronger ... and as we know, it's our beliefs that create our realities.

With warm regards,

Oh Aaron,

You keep saying what I need to listen :)

Yes, that may even mean quitting my job! Ha.

It's not that I haven't done it before in my life... in fact I have done it often and it has always meant growth and improvement.

Things change when we have a son to look after... or not? Maybe things don't change so much and it's just that we are more under the mire of society when we become parents.

Teaching a son to be brave to pursue our dreams looks just as important as having money to pay for his needs...

Mmmmm

Aaron,

This is one of the most informative article I've seen in some time! Our fears are our greatest limiters - and greatest waste of time.

Innovation can never come without risk - everything else is (as Thoreau said)"a life of quiet desperation".

Nathalie,

You are exactly right! It is the people who go against the grain that get noticed the most, and create new opportunities for themselves as well as others!

You'll do great by getting away from people who don't want to support your dreams, and surrounding yourself with people who do!

I could not agree more. I think I am at the point in my life where the quitting is happening. That is that I am wanting to turn into a different direction, but my parents and surrounding "friends" don't seem to understand why or support me in it. But that's okay, the people who go in the opposite direction of the crowd seem to do great. :)
