Here's a question for you. I'm 61 years old and pretty happy with life. I came from an alcoholic home and pretty much ran away from home after 4 years in the Navy. I drifted until I was about 40 and then started realizing that I was not happy with life. I've learned a lot about being in the moment and being pretty happy with life. I've also learned about manifesting what I want in life.
Here is the problem. In learning to live in the moment, I never really planned very far ahead. The concept of setting up a five year plan or anything like that is something that I never thought about doing. I have reached the point that I am concerned about how I will live my life when I am 65 or 70. I am not worried but I am concerned. I can generally bring whatever I want into my life. I have just never wanted much. Now I need to think about the future. Any comments, ideas or suggestions?

Answer: Russ,
Your questions brings up 2 distinct points that are both part of consciously creating the life that we want. I want to address each concept separately:
This is one of the points about our happiness and contentment in life that a lot of people repeatedly skip right over because the opportunity to live in the moment keeps happening over and over and over and over, etc. After awhile, people tend to forget that they are supposed to be FEELING GOOD every single moment of their lives. However, just like anything else, it is a habit that has to be formed, and unfortunately, most people have the habit of attracting "by default" as Bob Doyle says, and they forget that they are supposed to be living each and every moment from a state of happiness and joy.
Here is where the Life Lesson comes into all of this: Our lives are made up of each and every one of those moments! So, if we fail to develop the habit of continually feeling happy - to the point where we are doing it without thinking about it - then we will instead create a life that is full of negative moments, since that is the "default" mode for most people.
Try it out for awhile and you'll see what I am talking about. Set a reminder on your computer to pop up every 15 or 30 minutes for 2 or 3 days with the simple question, "Do you feel happy right now?" You may be surprised how many times you realize that you have forgotten to be happy and have instead fallen into your default mode of being busy and forgetting that you are supposed to be having a good time!
p.s. - Russ, I know that doesn't answer your question, but I wanted to take this opportunity to throw that quick lesson out there!
The continual act of creating the future that we want is just that - a continual act. There is no "one thing" that we should do in order to ensure prosperity and success for ourselves in the future, since we are literally creating that future every single moment of the NOW. Yes, there are financial roads that you can take, as well as personal and health/fitness endeavors that you can plan for, but the first thing that you need to realize is that in order to secure your future, you have to grasp the fact that you are creating it by the way that you are living your life in the NOW.
James Arthur Ray has a great bit that he does in the movie 'The Secret' where he talks about how people look at their lives and say, "This is who I am." However, James goes on to point out that who you see in the mirror today is not who you are, but rather who you were. He explains that if you don't like your life, but continue to define yourself as who you presently are, that you doom yourself to continually be who you already are. If you want to have a different life in the future, then you need to start making the future happen right now by acting and feeling like you will want to act and feel later in life. This goes right back to Living in the Moment.
So, to bring this all back around to the question of how to plan for your future, the answer is the same answer as the question of how to make more money, or how to lose weight, or how to attract better relationships, etc. The answer lies in first deciding what you want your future to look like. Once you have figured that out, then you can go about consciously creating the life that you want via proper utilization of the Law of Attraction.
Once you have decided exactly what you want your future to look like, then you can pick and choose between any or all of the popular ways that people use to invoke the Law of Attraction:
- Writing down a specific list of goals/desires
- Visualization
- Gratitude for what you already have
- Confidence and joy in what you know you are manifesting
- Release doubt/self-limiting beliefs
- Feeling GOOD!
Each of the items above is just an example, as there are as many ways to invoke the Law of Attraction as there are people who are doing so! However, the very first step to getting anything that you want in life is to first decide exactly what it is that you desire. After that, the Universe will guide you on how to actually get it!
