Jean,

Much obliged for adding so much wisdom to this conversation! I love your quote:

Play your part well and let go of the results.

That is some great advice that I'm sure even the "enlightened ones" could use a reminder about on a regular basis.

I'm totally with you on how helping other people keeps us inline as well! One of the reasons why I write about self improvement and personal development is to keep myself in the proper state of mind every day.

It's a wonderful thing to be able to help yourself by helping others! :)

"Play your part well and let go of the results." I was lucky enough to come across that Hindu concept when I was in high school. It struck me as the only sane way to go through life. It's not always easy to follow, but one doesn't have to do it perfectly for it to be life-changing.

Also, the reason I teach classes in stress-management is to remind myself of how I want to be in the world. I'm blessed with an internal voice that keeps me aligned...whenever I notice someone causing themselves grief that inner voice asks, "Where in your life are you doing this, Jean?

Mike,

HA! That is so true! People do need a system like that. It would save those awkward moments when we are about to do something against our own advice, and someone else has to remind us not to do it. D'oh! ;)~

Aaron,

Liz Strauss and I were musing not too long ago that what everyone needs is a system to remind them to take their own good advice. Sounds like your book would be yours!

Mike,

Glad to help you out with the reminder. I have found that reminders of concepts that we are already familiar with are sometimes more powerful than learning those concepts to begin with!

One of my goals is to eventually take all of the notes and reminders that I have on my computer and put them all into one document, format it, and print it out in book form. It will be like my own personal book of holy knowledge!

Glad I could help someone else out in a similar regard! :)

Aaron,

This was one of my favorite pieces of advice from Srikumar Rao's excellent book "Are You Ready to Succeed".

Of course, it's harder in practice than on paper!

Thanks for the great reminder.
